The above photo is the Statue of Liberty as seen from the Brooklyn Bridge during the surprise birthday/Christmas trip I gave to Jason in January 2024. Technically, it counts because — behold — we can see the statue from the bridge.
However, in June 2008, I took Park on a trip to New York City for his birthday. On that trip, we did all of the proper tourist things: We rode the subway, went to Central Park, visited the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan, saw a Broadway play (Spamalot!), went to the top of the Empire State Building*, and went all the way to the base of the Statue of Liberty.
Somewhere, in some lost archive, I have photos from that trip. Regrettably, for now, I cannot find them. But we did go there, and we sang “Higher and Higher” from Ghostbusters 2 while we were there.
When I find those photos, I will share them here.
*While in line for the Empire State Building elevator, one of the staff mistook me for Debra Messing. I protested, but he persisted, saying, “It’s okay, Ms. Messing. I won’t tell anyone.” He then proceeded to put us in a VIP line for the tour to the top observation tower free of charge.
