Election Day 2024

Tomorrow will be an intense day in our nation’s history. I hope I can keep busy and not stress about it too much.

It’s a big deal for my family in particular, with Ted Cruz building his entire re-election campaign on anti-transgender rhetoric. I haven’t forgotten that the state’s Attorney General pulled a list of names from the Texas Department of Motorized Vehicles containing every person who has filed to have their gender changed on their driver’s license. Everyone asserts that he did nothing with that list, but he still pulled it, which means he still has it, just in case.

And I can imagine all too well why people like AG Paxton and Ted Cruz would want a list like that.

Many people here tell me I’m overreacting. That everything will be okay. I’ve read enough books to know that the moment you think it can’t happen is the moment that it can.

I’m scared. I’m anxious. I’m preemptively grieving. If Kamala Harris doesn’t win this election, I know we will have to fight that much harder to keep the wave of fascists at bay. If she does win, I can breathe a sigh of relief that sometimes the bullies lose. It feels like they are running roughshod all over the place right now, and I really hope that Trump losing will send them a message, that we will not go back, that we are strong, and we will fight for our rights as women, as members of the LGBTQ community, and as human beings.
